There are so many different items that can be used when filling out your planner. You can go simple, or you can go complicated. I am one of those people who likes to turn into a pretty creative project. Depending on whether there is some big event coming up or a holiday, I may do more detail. I do love planning out my month or week in my planner. It is also another creative outlet for me.

These are some of the items and tools that I use when feeling out my planner:

Pens, Markers & Highlighters

I use these all the time when filling out the pages. I use different colours, and sometimes it’s various shades for various events or things I want to do. For example, purple craft events, and I don’t do the same every month, sometimes I change the colour. It makes the page more colourful and fun. I use gel, ballpoint and felt tip markers in all different tip sizes. It depends on what I am writing in the planner, the size of the box that I am writing in, and how much is going into the space. I like to use highlighters to help separate lists or sections. When I create a market list in the to-do section, I like to make sure I can see the title more easily or important dates that I want to stick out.

Test out everything on the back note pages to see how they react to the paper. Some pens, markers and highlighters will bleed through the paper. Not all paper is the same, so what works on one piece of paper might not work on others. Play with each pen, marker and highlighter until you find what works best for you.

My Favourite pens are Cross (an expensive brand) or Zebra (reasonably priced). You'll be surprised how nice some of the cheaper pens write. Highlighters, I only use the Zebra Mildliners. I find they don’t bleed through paper as much or at all. I will use other brands if I am in a pinch.

Stickers

I like to use them when I am putting in a birthday by adding a balloon, events by adding a ring for an engagement party, or a holiday by adding a Christmas tree or Santa. If there is a spot I am not going to use, like the smaller calender in the corner putting a note sticker over it to make it a space I can use (I make my own). It's also a great way to add reading or habit trackers. They are also a great way just to decorate the page and have some fun. They add images and colour to the pages. Using the stickers is a great way to cover up mistakes if you don’t have correction tape or want to use it.

You can find stickers anywhere, and the possibilities are endless for decorating the pages. I created my own planner stickers to fill in the areas of the pages I won’t use. I like to track my reading habits, so I created my own stickers to track my progress. I also have sticker makers, so if there is something I want to use but don’t want to use glue, I can turn it into a sticker.

These are some of the stickers I have created: to-do title, emotional baggage, and floral notes. I use these to cover up sections I won't use and add more space for things I want to add or expand.

Washi Tape

One of my favourite planner supplies is playing with washi tape. I use it for so many aspects of the planner. You can add it anywhere on the page to decorate the edges of the pages, or the insides of the boxes. If there is wording or images on the tape, you can use it like a sticker. I like to use it to cover up mistakes instead of correction tape, which doesn’t always look nice.

There are so many design and size options available. There are rolls for every season, so many different themes like book, under the sea, animals, unicorns, coffee and food. There are all kinds of colours, patterns, metallics, holographic, glitters, scents and textures. You can find it in many different places. I am obsessed with washi tape. Check out this post about my obsession.

Sticky Notes & tabs

Different type of sticky notes.

I like to use these for adding extra notes that I can move around to other pages for later if needed. For example, I like to make lists of what I need to do for a craft show or rough notes for my blog. I can move them to new pages to keep track or to a notebook if needed, and leave the list out instead of having the planner open all the time. The tabs I don't use all the time, but I find them great just in case I want to bookmark a page with something super important.

I found cool sticky notes on Amazon that are see-through, so you can still see what is underneath the sticky note. I still use the regular ones when making my notes, depending on where the note is going and what the note is for.

Stamps & ink

I don’t always use these, but I like to use them if I don’t have a sticker handy or want to do something different. It helps to create colouring areas in your planner if colouring helps with your anxiety or helps you focus. If you want designs on your pages but can't draw, this gives you the opportunity. I have stamps that help you create a to-do list to fill out and a mini calendar, so that when there are areas I want to fill in, to make it more useful.

Ruler & Stencils

I use the ruler to cross out days when done, split a box or area into sections or cross something off a list. I like using stencils to create bulleted lists, titles for lists, fun images and decorations. Some stencils have fun banners, arrows, circles, squares, stars and hearts.

Clips

Heart shaped paperclips.

I like to use these types of clips to keep notes attached to pages that aren't on sticky notes. Hold the pages that I have already used together. You can also use them to hold something to pages until you can take it out when you need to, like a ticket stub. You can find all kinds of different colours, sizes and shapes.
