I have tried many different ways of storing my vinyl, and some worked out fine, but over time, stopped working. At one point, all the smaller pieces just ended up in one big storage bin, and it was messy. After that, I started storing them individually in little photo albums, but eventually, they got so full it was hard to manage.
Once I switched over to what I am doing now, I have been able to keep up with keeping my vinyl clean and organized, and can find what I need faster and don’t create more scrapes when I don’t need to. Once I started doing this for the vinyl, I started doing the same thing with my cardstock.
Small scraps under 4 by 6

I bought a photo storage case that usually has about 16 individual cases (I got mine from Michaels and Amazon) and organized the colours into the individual cases. I labelled each case (with a label maker) to make it easier to grab the case for the colour I need. Next, I want to label the cases with the same coloured vinyl. Having this is convenient for me to be able to leave the case on my desk or floor and just grab the case I need.
There were a few empty cases. Once all the colours were organized, I filled one with alcohol wipes I use to clean blanks before adding the vinyl and the other with small transfer tape pieces. I added a label on the side of the larger case saying vinyl, since I use the same cases for storage for other craft materials. I also write if the vinyl is permanent (651) or removable (631).
I found this to be the best way to store my small scraps and makes it easier to find what I need when working on smaller projects, and my craft room is a little neater.
Scraps between 4 by 6 & 6 by 6

I bought a bunch of 6-by-6 plastic storage containers from Amazon and started using one for the scraps that were too big for the 4 by 6 cases. Because I don’t have a lot of different colours, I don’t need to organize the scraps by colour yet. If the scraps build, I will organize them more. I write if the vinyl is permanent (651) or removable (631).
I used to keep these scraps with the large pieces or full pieces in a 12 by 12 case. Sometimes they would get lost in between the full sheets and then have to use a full sheet and create more scraps when I didn’t need to.
Scraps over 6 by 6

I have a 12-by-12 storage case for anything over 6 by 6. I used to keep them with the full sheets, but pieces got lost, and it just got too heavy. I write if the vinyl is permanent (651) or removable (631).
12 by 12 sheets
When the sheets go on sale or clearance, or I am stocking up on colours that I use the most, I keep them in a 12 by 12 storage case and grab them out as needed. I have one set up for permanent and removable vinyl.
Vinyl cutouts
Sometimes when I am working on a project, I cut a few extras. I like to keep them so I can use them for other projects. I bought small containers from the Dollar Tree and use those to store the extras. They might end up in one of the 4 by 6 cases if I end up emptying one, but for now, this works.
Rolls
Not all my vinyl is sheets; I also have a large number of vinyl rolls. Those aren’t as easy to store as the sheets. At one point, I had them in the bigger storage containers, and it just didn’t work as I got more. Now I have them stored in an over-the-door shoe holder I found on Amazon, and it works really well.
