This is such a cute banner. I love the cardstock I choose for it, a peach colour with a silver foil design on it. It just gave the bunnies a little something extra. After I strung the banner and hung it I wasn’t a big fan of how it looked with just the string and bunnies it didn’t feel complete. I decided to add the wooden beads after staring at the banner for a while and talking to a few people. Once I had decided on using wooden beads pulled out all of my beads and couldn’t decide on colour. Eventually I settled on peach colour to go with the cardstock. After it was strung and hung up with the wooden beads it finally felt complete.

Materials

  • Cardstock 12 by 12 for bunnies
  • Wooden beads
  • Cricut machine
  • Cricut Design Space
  • 12 by 12 standard green mat or lightweight blue mat
  • Fine point blade
  • Brayer - to secure cardstock
  • Spatula - left cardstock
  • Twine or string for hanging
  • Embellishments (optional)

How to make

Making the bunny

  1. Open Cricut Design Space.
  2. Go to “images” and search for a bunny or rabbit.
  3. Adjust it to the desired size.

Adding the holes for twine

Print screen of the rabbit in Cricut Design space with measurements.
I used this for another banner that had a tail this banner didn't have one.
  1. Go to “shapes” and choose a circle.
  2. Adjust the circle to the desired size and position over the ear. If you aren’t adding the hole to the ears just place the circle where you want the holes to go. This may require you to zoom in.
  3. Duplicate the circle once you are happy with the size and placement.
  4. Move the second circle to the other ear.
  5. Highlight both circles and go to “align” at the top and choose either “top” or “bottom” Both will work, it is just to make sure the holes are level with each other.
  6. Go to “layers” and temporarily hide one of the circles by clicking the eye. You can only slice two images at a time.
  7. Highlight the bunny and the circle and click “slice” at the bottom.
  8. Delete the two circles you just sliced since you don’t need them anymore.
  9. Go back to “layers” and click the eye to make the other circle visible again.
  10. Repeat steps 8 and 9 for the other ear.
  11. Then duplicate the bunny as many times as desired.

Cutting the cardstock

  1. Turn on the machine and make sure the fine point blade is loaded.
  2. Place cardstock on the mat and take the brayer and run it over the cardstock to help adhere to the mat.
  3. Go to “make it” when ready to cut.
  4. Choose “mat for any material” and click continue.
  5. Choose the “cardstock” option that matches the best.
  6. Load the mat into the machine then the “arrow” starts flashing.
  7. Click the flashing “C” when prompted to begin the cut.
  8. Repeat as needed.

Removing the cardstock

Individual cut out of a banner piece on the twine.
  1. Unload the mat when the “arrow” starts flashing.
  2. Take the mat and flip it over and pull the mat off the cardstock. This will help the cardstock from curling.
  3. Use the spatula to remove aunty cutouts that are stuck to the mat.
  4. If there are still pieces in the ears where the circles are, poke them out.
  5. Repeat as needed.
  6. Start threading the twine or the string through the ears add the wooden beads as desired.
