Below are some of the places where I get the materials for my projects. It depends on what I am looking for, when I need it, and I try to be cost-efficient. I do my best to stock up on materials where I can and prefer to buy in bulk when I can, so I can keep my prices reasonable for people to buy when I do markets or have them up on my Shopify (link coming soon). I do a lot of searching when I am looking to buy in bulk. Before buying, I will spend days looking. I am sure there are other ways to get supplies that I am missing. You never know where you will find something to create with.

Dollar Store/Dollar Tree

This is a good place to get some of the materials I use a lot, and it works just as well as the materials I can get at Michaels or Amazon. I did a bunch of testing of the materials before I switched to using the dollar store material. I also get some of the tools I use in my workshop from here, or when I taught Cricut classes.

  • Two-sided tape (Dollar Tree)
  • Foam tape and dots (Dollar Tree)
  • Hot glue sticks
  • Cardstock
  • Wooden pieces
  • Aleenes glue
  • Twine
  • Random blanks, wooden and metal
  • Stickers
  • Washi tape (this can be hit and miss. I find sometimes the adhesive isn’t as sticky as I would like.)
  • Embellishments
  • Felt (mainly for testing before using my other stuff)

Michaels

I have been able to stock up when they have sales, or when it goes on clearance, and with them being close, I can just pop in when I need to.

Pads of scrapbooking paper.
  • Cardstock: big selection to choose from, the seasonal paper patterns are nice and individual pieces.
  • Vinyl: I mainly use Oracal, and they carry it if I need it right away, and I can’t wait for it to be delivered.
  • Washi tape: You can find all kinds of designs and patterns. I do find from time to time that the adhesive isn’t as sticky as it should be.
  • Blank Cards: I make all my own cards, so having blanks available all the time is important.
  • Blank item: ornaments mainly at Christmas time.
  • Jewelry findings
  • Glitter
  • Stamps & ink
  • Ribbon
  • Glue tape runner
  • Felt
  • Batting

I started getting my glue pens and two-sided tape from there, but when they stopped carrying the ones I liked, I ended up having to get them elsewhere.

Amazon

I do get a lot of my supplies from Amazon because I can’t find them anywhere else, or I want to get materials in bulk and can’t find them at a reasonable price and keep my prices low for selling. I will also wishlist stuff and wait for it to go onsale and then get it.

Blank acrylic bookmarks with different coloured tassels.

  • Christmas Ornaments

  • Cards - sometimes I can’t get the colour I want at Michaels

Antique Stores/Thrift Stores

A teacup candle with a pink floral design.

When I make my teacup candles, I like to use teacups that are older and ones that people wouldn’t use for collections, ones that have chips in them or don’t have a matching saucer. I have been lucky enough to find them for 1 to 2 dollars per cup. I have been able to find other fun vessels to make candles. I like to try to make the candles using upcycled materials. You can find other things to do to projects wth you, just won't know until you can and look around.

Vendors Online

The scents used when making candles are not something I can do on my own. I have used wax melts from places, but it’s not the same as using a liquid scent. You can also buy blanks and other materials. I always look around at different ones to see who has the better deals.

Buying from other crafters

If you look around at some of the craft groups you are a part of, you can sometimes get supplies you need at reasonable prices. I have seen people selling off their entire craft business or they are doing a clean up of their craftroom and just want to get of supplies they don't need anymore. I but stuff on Facebook Marketplace and sold it.

I have gotten:

  • Big bags of soy wax
  • Candle wicks
  • Container for making tea light candles
  • Candle scents
  • Embossing folders

Random Stores

I have some different items at Homesense to make candles with and other random items that I have plans for. I found a big wooden sign that was on the clearance that I want to make a sign with but I am still working on a plan for it.
